About Bar Galaxies

About Bar Galaxies

Bar galaxies are spiral galaxies with a bar-shaped structure of stars that extends from the central bulge. About two-thirds of all spiral galaxies contain a central bar-like structure.

The bar plays an important role in the evolution of galaxies, channeling gas toward the center which fuels star formation and feeds the central black hole.

In this simulation, you can control various parameters to see how they affect the shape and dynamics of a barred spiral galaxy.

Mouse Controls: Click and drag to rotate the galaxy. Use mouse wheel to zoom in/out.
